DC-DC converters are indispensable for the improvement of power transfer efficiency in wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. However, inductors in DC-DC converters occupy large footprints. In this paper, we introduce a reconfigurable rectifier that functions as a variable impedance without using inductors. Although the rectifier can only perform a discrete impedance conversion, this disadvantage is compensated by using asymmetric switching. Simulations and measurements results show that the power transfer efficiency can be improved by the impedance conversion using the proposed rectifier. It has been shown that the overall efficiency based on the proposed rectifier is higher than that of the conventional method using a full-wave bridge rectifier and a boost DC-DC converter. |
