IEEE 802.11 WLANs implement CSMA/CA to reduce collisions using RTS/CTS. RTS/CTS avoids collisions caused by hidden nodes but causes another problem known as the exposed node problem. In this paper, we present continuing evaluation of a novel method for solving the exposed node problem using asymmetric transmission ranges for RTS/CTS frames in ad hoc WLANs. Using Network Simulator-2, we show that the proposed method significantly improves throughput compared to the standard method. |
