This work proposes a novel current-mode pulse generator based on a transmission line resonator. An impulse current generated by an NMOS is used to trigger the resonator, resulting in a wide-band damping pulse at the output terminal. The pulse generator has zero stand-by power and quick starting time. The transmission line resonator is implemented on a quartz substrate for lower loss compared to silicon. The quartz and CMOS are integrated by flip-chip ball bonding. The current mode scheme reduces required the size of the CMOS trigger and eliminates energy wasted by drain parasitic capacitance, thus improves overall efficiency. The design, simulations and a measurement are discussed. |
