A reliable wireless communication method for next-generation decentralized control of power distribution systems is described; the method is based on TDMA combined with broadcast and data redundancy. The communication reliability (packet non-arriving rate [PNR] and latency) of the method was evaluated for a case study in a simulation under a realistic condition using Japanese next-generation power distribution system and an experimentally derived radio propagation model. The simulation results show that a certain level of PNR (~10^-1) can be rapidly achieved for low data redundancy (n~2). In addition, high data redundancy provides a very low PNR with less latency. For 50-kbps data speed on 920-MHz/250-mW wireless media, up to 20 nodes can wirelessly communicate with a PNR of 10^-2 and 2 s latency to achieve P2P communication and data exchange among all control devices, which means the target specifications for the next-generation distributed control can be achieved with the method. |
