Superconductor-based AQFP (adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron) logic holds tremendous promise towards building energy efficient computing systems with bit energies approaching 100kBT. While this technology is capable of using conventional AND-OR-NOT logic gates, it is possible to reduce logic complexity by using majority gates, which in turn can reduce circuit area and latency. This is especially beneficial for AQFP logic as the majority function is the most primitive operation in this technology. As a first step towards exploiting majority logic in AQFP, we implement an 8-bit Kogge-Stone adder using as many majority gates as possible. The design has been fabricated and functionally demonstrated. |
