How to join
The official application system handles the membership procedure. Preparing your endorser and documents first will make the process easier.
Recommendation from one eligible IEICE member is required. A student applicant may exceptionally ask an instructor at the same school when necessary.
Student applicants should prepare an accepted PDF document showing enrollment and the expected graduation date or course period.
Enter a PC email address. The application system sends the URL for the online form to the registered address.
Complete the form, payment and recommendation. After Board approval, membership begins at the start of the following month.
Recommendation approval and first-year payment must be confirmed by the 15th for expected enrollment at the beginning of the following month.

Overseas Membership is for non-Japanese citizens residing outside Japan. Applicants living in Japan use the individual membership route for residents of Japan.
JPY 7,000 per year for an Overseas Member and JPY 2,000 for an Overseas Student Member, excluding the printed IEICE Journal.
The endorser should normally be an IEICE Member. Student applicants may exceptionally ask an instructor at their school.
First-year payment and recommendation approval must both be completed by the 15th for expected enrollment on the first day of the following month.
Overseas Membership applies to candidates who reside outside Japan and do not hold Japanese citizenship. A non-Japanese citizen residing in Japan should use the application route for residents of Japan.
Applicants should have specialized knowledge, expertise or comparable experience in electronics, information, communications or related fields and support the objectives of IEICE.

Eligible applicants must submit a PDF certificate of registration before paying the annual dues. Only the most advantageous applicable discount is normally used.
After submitting the application and completing payment, access the Temporary Members' Member Page to obtain the invoice and receipt. A receipt becomes downloadable after IEICE Headquarters confirms the payment.

Yes. Many researchers and engineers participate in more than one society. IEICE has a particularly clear role when your study, collaborators, technical interests or career connect with Japan.
No. English-language publications and selected international activities are available, but some domestic meetings, materials and discussions are mainly in Japanese. Check the language shown for each activity.
Yes, subject to keeping your membership details and applicable category current. Online services and International Sections provide ways to continue participating from abroad. Contact the Membership Section when your residence changes.
Under the current service rules, all individual members may choose one International Section regardless of country or area of residence, with no registration fee.
Yes. One eligible endorser is required. Student applicants may exceptionally use an instructor from their school when an IEICE member recommendation is difficult to obtain.
No. IEICE's fiscal year runs from April to March, and annual dues are not prorated for admission during the fiscal year.
