Summary:
In this paper, a 2.45-GHz microwave wireless power transmission technique with an implantable open cylindrical antenna, a rectifying circuit and an external antenna module is designed and characterized for biomedical applications. The geometry of the open cylindrical antenna facilitates its direct installation in human tissue for therapeutic applications such as nerve stimulation. The simulation results show that the implanted open cylindrical antenna has an acceptable performance in human tissue and that the microwave wireless power transmission technique with this antenna is capable of delivering an electrical stimulus that can be used for nerve stimulation while conforming to the IEEE safety standards.
