Summary:
The MUSIC-based estimation of direction of arrival (DOA) using universal steering vector (USV) is experimentally carried out. A4-element monopole array antenna with reflector is used as the receiving antenna, and a receiver with 4-channel RF-IF down-converters is employed to transform 2.452GHz RF signal to 15.36MHz IF signal for MUSIC processing. Three different USVs are applied to the DOA estimation. One is the numerical USV which includes the mutual coupling of the receiving array antenna and is calculated by the method of moments (MoM). The second one includes the effect of both the receiving array antenna and the RF cable from the antenna to the receiver, and is obtained by measuring the array element pattern at the output of cables. The third one includes mutual coupling between array elements, the RF cable and the circuit of the RF-IF down-converter as well, and is obtained by measuring the array element pattern at the IF output of the receiver. The experimental results of DOA estimation using these USVs are compared and show that the best accuracy can be obtained by including all effects.
