Summary:
This paper proposes an intelligent radio-wave design (IRD) that has potential to enhance various performances on wireless communication and non-communication systems by artificially and dynamically controlling spatial radio-waves. In particular, millimeter-wave (mmWave) systems, which are expected to be used in 6G networks, greatly depends on the actual radio-wave environments. Beamforming technology is rapidly developing to solve this problem, as represented by massive MIMO. The purpose of this study is to further enhance its performance limit by applying IRD. To clarify the effectiveness of this approach, this paper demonstrates realization of practical artificial radio-wave control by using the distributed intelligent reflecting surfaces (DIRSs) we developed from our experiments.
