Summary:
Among several types of multicore EDFA, we focused on the problem of the characterization of core pumped coupled core multicore EDFA and the low amplification efficiency for C-band signal of un-coupled core cladding pumped multicore EDFA. Real-time optical gain monitoring method for core pumped coupled core multicore EDFA and pump recycling technology named turbo cladding pumping scheme was proposed to solve each problem. Within 35 msec for 7 cores optical gain monitoring for the coupled core multicore EDFA has been successfully confirmed by the experiment. In addition, 2.4 dB optical gain improvement for C-band optical signal of cladding pumped un-coupled multicore EDFA has been demonstrated as reported in Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) paper [1].
