Summary:
In this paper, we discuss the integration of aggregate query and wake-up control in wireless sensor networks. We consider a scenario where each sensor node equipped with a wake-up receiver is remotely activated by a sink with different types of wake-up control. The sink executes aggregate query, e.g., it attempts to obtain the mean value or top-k values of data stored over the entire network. In order to reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node, it is required for the sink to only activate sensor nodes that have relevant data to the aggregate query. In this paper, we focus on content-based wake-up control, which realizes remote wake-up of sensor nodes based on their sensed data. We discuss how the wake-up control should be integrated with the aggregate query in order to achieve energy-efficient operations of sensor nodes.
