Summary:
Mode division multiplexing (MDM) transmission is a key technology for realizing a much larger transmission capacity than possible with conventional single-mode fiber (SMF) [1]. Recent research has revealed that differential mode attenuation (DMA) severely degrades system performance, and several DMA compensation techniques have been proposed [2, 3]. In this paper, we demonstrate a fiber-based DMA compensator that utilizes a femto-second laser inscription technique [2].
