Summary:
Beamforming is a technique that concentrates wave energy in a specific direction using multiple element arrays. It can expand the communication transmission range and reduce multipath interference in underwater acoustic communication. Our previous work investigated a retrodirective system that estimates the direction of arrival (DOA) from a sound wave in the other communication terminal and controls the transmission direction in the opposite direction. This study proposes a bidirectional retrodirective system that estimates the DOA and controls the transmission direction at each terminal. In the verification of the proposed method, we evaluated the communication characteristics of the line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments by simulation and conducted actual measurement tests in the swimming pool.
