Summary:
The paper explores the use of a perturbative representation as an alternative to the bilinear representation of a weakly nonlinear system for the purposes of model reduction of such systems. It examines the behaviour of the perturbative model under several transformations with a view to determining appropriate approximate gramians for use in balancing model reduction routines. The paper proceeds to show their implementation and illustrates the determination of the balancing matrices for the balancing model reduction routines. Finally, a suitable example illustrates the efficacy of the proposed approach.
