Summary:
A way to model a switched-mode converter and estimate its power loss via XMODEL is presented. The model leverages the fast and accurate event-driven simulation capability of XMODEL yet includes the detailed parasitic characteristics of the device components for accurate power loss estimation. The experimental results with a MOSFET-based converters such as a boost converter, and a buck converter demonstrate that the presented model with XMODEL is about 450% faster with <1% error compared to HSPICE simulation.
