Summary:
Recently, the unified unknown syndrome representations have been used to decode binary cyclic codes up to actual minimum distances. Two practical methods to determine unknown syndromes as sparse polynomials in terms of syndromes are proposed by using the syndrome matrices. Experimental results show that the presented methods provide the sparse polynomials for the unknown syndromes and the developed decoders based on them can significantly reduce both delay time and area overhead.
