Summary:
This paper proposes the use of multi-dimensional trellis coded modulation (MD-TCM) to achieve higher rate data transmission capability in the IEEE802.22 wireless regional area network (WRAN). Four-dimensional TCM based on Wei construction is applied to the data mapping. Computer simulation has been conducted to evaluate the bit error rate performance under AWGN and IEEE 802.22 multipath channels. Simulation results show that MD-TCM provides 2 to 4dB advantage on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to achieve 10-5 bit error rate comparing with conventional coded QAM under the same bit rate condition in AWGN and multipath channels.
