Mianxiong DONG
Mianxiong DONG

Dr. Mianxiong Dong received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from The University of Aizu (UoA), Japan, in 2006, 2008, and 2013, respectively. He was a JSPS Research Fellow with The UoA from 2009 to 2011, and was a visiting scholar with the BBCR group at the University of Waterloo, Canada supported by the JSPS Excellent Young Researcher Overseas Visitor Program from 2010 to 2011. After he worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan, he joined the Muroran Institute of Technology (Muroran-IT), Japan in 2014. He is currently the Vice President and Professor of Muroran-IT since 2019.

Dr. Dong is an excellent researcher with significant contributions to the theoretical and experimental studies of IoT systems to enhance social infrastructure for disaster resilience. The excellence of his work is evidenced in that he has published over 300 papers in top tier journals and international conferences. The impact of his work can also be shown by his ESI Highly Cited Papers and ESI Hot Papers with 8200+ Google Scholar citations. He is Clarivate Analytics 2019 Highly Cited Researcher (Web of Science).

Dr. Dong’s research outcomes have also been used in practical systems. He has designed a next-generation disaster response platform by combing emerging IoT techniques. The platform is crucial in quickly building emergency networks where many people cannot contact the outside world. He also developed and tested a prototype system in emergency drills hosted by local governments in 2019. Due to the high quality and significant novelty of his work, he was selected as a NISTEP Researcher in 2018 in recognition of significant contributions in science and technology from MEXT, and won the Hokkaido Governor Science and Technology Encouragement Award 2019.

As described above, his outstanding contributions to the fields of electronics, information, and communication are worthy of receiving this prestigious award. We expect him to continuously make outstanding and fruitful research contributions in his future career.
