About GNW
Your first step into international academic exchange
A formal conference presentation can feel like a high barrier, especially in English. GNW offers a more approachable first step: a short introduction followed by poster conversations, where you can explain your work and respond to questions one person or one small group at a time. English is the working language, but the purpose is research exchange: explaining research, sharing ideas, asking questions, and learning from other participants—not English conversation practice alone.

Discover people and perspectives across institutions, research fields, countries, and cultures—and create connections that can continue after the event.
Make your English presentation debut
Use a short introduction to lead interested participants to your poster, then build confidence through direct conversation instead of a one-to-many presentation. Early-career researchers and engineers working in Japanese companies can also gain practical experience presenting and discussing technical work in English.

GNW welcomes presenters and the audience regardless of research topic or affiliation. Requirements may vary by workshop, so always confirm the dedicated event page before registering.
Attend as a presenter
Introduce your research in English, then exchange ideas directly at your poster. All technical fields are welcome, including work in progress and early-stage ideas.

- Submit only a profile photo and one figure; a short abstract may replace the figure
- Prepare the specified poster format (A0 portrait for GNW 2026 Tokyo)
- Prepare a 30–60 second flash introduction in English

What size should my poster be?
For GNW 2026 in Tokyo, prepare one A0-size poster in portrait orientation. Requirements can change between workshops; confirm the size on the dedicated event page before printing.
When and how should I bring and display my poster?
Poster setup is available from 12:00 to 13:30, and registration opens at 12:30. Push pins and other materials needed to attach posters to the assigned boards will be available at the venue, so you do not need to bring your own fixing materials.
Do I need to submit my paper, poster, or flash-presentation slide in advance?
For GNW 2026 in Tokyo, no full paper or poster file is required in advance. The application asks for a representative figure or short research summary; the secretariat prepares the flash-presentation slide from the application. Prepare a short 30–60 second introduction in English.
Can I receive a certificate of presentation or attendance?
Yes. A presentation certificate can be issued to eligible presenters, and an attendance certificate can be issued to registered participants. To request a certificate, email the IEICE International Committee at kokusai@ieice.org. Please state the name and affiliation to be printed on the certificate.
Can IEICE prepare documents needed for a visa application to enter Japan?
Yes—where the event’s eligibility and administrative conditions are met, the organizer can prepare event-related supporting documents for registered overseas participants. The exact documents, recipients, application deadline, and whether presentation acceptance is required must be stated on each event page.
Participants remain responsible for checking whether a visa is required and for applying to the Japanese embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over their place of residence. Requirements differ by nationality and local mission. Supporting documents from IEICE relate to genuine workshop participation and the declared itinerary; they do not guarantee that a visa will be issued or that entry to Japan will be permitted.
May I include sightseeing or personal travel in my stay?
Participants may plan personal travel around the workshop, subject to the conditions of their visa or visa-exempt status. The purpose and full itinerary provided in any application must be accurate. IEICE supporting documents certify the event-related portion only; travel arrangements, expenses, insurance, immigration compliance, and personal activities remain the participant’s responsibility.
How early should I start a visa-related request?
Start as early as possible after your participation or presentation is confirmed. Documents required by Japan may vary, and additional examination can extend processing time. Contact the GNW office before booking non-refundable travel and follow the instructions of the Japanese embassy or consulate where you will apply.
