The IEICE originated with its predecessor, The Second Study Group formed in the Second Department of the Electric Laboratory, Ministry of Communications, which was founded in 1911. On May 1, 1917, it was officially established as the "Telephone Society." Since then, it has played a leading role in developing the fast-growing academic fields of electronics, information and communication, and in promoting the associated industries. As a result of those efforts, the IEICE was able to celebrate its 100th anniversary in May 2017. In April 1995, in line with diffusion of related academic fields, we introduced a society system to enable provision of unique activities in each field of research.
Currently, we have the Engineering Sciences Society, NOLTA Society, Communications Society, Electronics Society, Information and Systems Society, and the Human Communication Group. Each of those bodies has technical committees. Eighty-four technical committee conferences in relevant fields are held, with each being organized autonomously. The information taken up at these conferences is highly appreciated for its usefulness and innovation. Some 9,000 subjects are reported on in a typical year.

IEEE GRSS All Japan Joint Chapter (GRSS AJC) was established in 1982 as a local comunity of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society.
We are working as a hub of geoscience and remote sensing communities.
Please let us know if you have any information that may be interesting for Japanese researchers.

IEEE AES Japan Chapter (AES JC) is working as a branch of IEEE Aerospace and Electronic System Society(AESS).
The AESS is the only professional society dealing with total integrated electronic systems and the enabling technologies. AESS pioneered large-scale integrated interoperable systems.

ENRI is responsible for research and development in the field of electronic navigation in Japan. Our research activities cover the basic technologies of avionics such as electronic navigation, air traffic control and satellite navigation, and the related field supporting governmental needs and social demands.
