Summary:
Many classifications of the Cellular Automata rules have been proposed in the last decades. Some of them are based on empirical observations, and hence their rigor is doubtful, while others are based on precise, though often complicated, mathematical methods. In this paper, we present two new classifications for Cellular Automata rules, which come from two different disciplines; namely, Nonlinear Dynamics and Formal Language Theory. These classifications are straightforward to obtain and give remarkably similar results.
