Summary:
Homotopy methods are known to be effective methods for finding DC operating points of nonlinear circuits with the theoretical guarantee of global convergence. There are several types of homotopy methods; as one of the most efficient methods, the variable-gain homotopy (VGH) method is well-known. However, the global convergence of the VGH method for modified nodal equations (that are used in SPICE) has not been theoretically guaranteed; actually, it sometimes fails to converge. In this paper, we propose a modified algorithm of the VGH method and prove its global convergence for modified nodal equations. An experimental result is given to show the validity of the theory.
