Summary:
In this study, IIR filters having a null frequency in a stopband are designed using PSO. A new penalty function is introduced to an objective function in addition to a conventional penalty function which ensures a stability of IIR filters. Then, local minimums are brought to the objective function by adding such a constraint. Therefore, it is important to avoid a local minimum stagnation of PSO. In the proposed method, a particle reallocation method is applied when the stagnation has occurred. The effectiveness of the method is verified through several design examples.
