Summary:
In this paper, we propose a Multi-Dimensional Transform(MDT) technique for future video coding. Unlike traditional video codecs, H.264/AVC uses an integer 4×4 block transform. Using small block size coding, H.264/AVC obtains high temporal prediction efficiency, but it has limitation in utilizing spatial redundancy. The proposed MDT is a new method for additionally reducing spatial redundancies of image. Experimental results indicate MDT can provide better R-D performance than the conventional H.264/AVC transform.
