Summary:
Background: Recently, various authentication methods have been proposed for users who enter important places. For example, a study has introduced an authentication method based on spatiotemporal information and actions. Using this method, users repeatedly perform specific actions, such as tapping a smartphone at specific places on the way to their destination several times. Aim: The goal of this study is to enhance the security of the aforementioned authentication method. Method: In our proposed method, we use facial expressions as indicators of the users’ actions. The actions are defined using websites that are displayed on their smartphones. For instance, at a station, a user smiles to the camera on his/her smartphone, while browsing a microblogging website. Results: To evaluate the feasibility of our method, we assessed whether the users maintained the predefined facial expressions for a while. As a result, subjects properly smiled in most cases.
