Summary:
At present, many automakers are paying attention to develop vehicles with driver’s health monitoring system since many fatal traffic accidents due to drivers are caused by cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. This paper suggests a driver’s health monitoring sensor where vital signs of breathing, heartrate variation and continuous systolic/diastolic blood pressure are measured in a non-contact/non-invasive way with a single millimeter-wave (MMW) sensor. Measurement was conducted while driving an automobile and the results are also compared with an ECG (electrocardiogram) and cuff-BP monitor in order verify the validity.
