Summary:
Implementing a next generation smart mobility society requires considering not only the single vehicle used in current autonomous driving technology, but also multiple vehicles to implement integrated systems in a broader context. Vehicles are highly mobility and have limited wireless resources, making it difficult to guarantee the quality of network communication. In road-to-vehicle communication, the network changes topology frequently due to the high mobility of vehicles. Therefore, frequent handovers occur between vehicles with high mobility and Roadside Units(RSU) or base stations, affecting network communication performance while fast moving. SDN plays a key role in VANET. Overcoming the challenges of traditional networks such as cost, security, and performance from loss of connectivity, bringing a new range of technologies to VANET. It is flexible and programmable and also offers many other features such as low latency, high throughput. SDN introduces new features to the VANET arena, but at the same time is vulnerable to new threats. In this paper, things to consider when constructing an SDN-based VANET is summarized and future research directions are discussed.
