Summary:
The Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET), one of the key elements of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), has drawn attention from academia and industry. New vehicle applications and exponentially growing data are naturally increasing demands on communication, compute and storage resources, leading to stringent performance requirements for response times and network bandwidth. To solve this challenge, Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) are considered promising solutions. In this paper, we provide a brief overview of MCC and MEC and describe research issues to be considered when applied to IoV environments. After that, future research directions will be discussed.
