Summary:
Underwater is one of the most promising areas for the frontier of telecommunication and IoT. Especially, remote sensing of the coastal environment is attractive. Therefore, it is important to expand wireless access network to underwater region which enables remote sensing services to widespread at any places around costal ocean. However, microwave cannot be used due to its large loss in underwater. Recently, optical wireless transmission using blue/green emitting light sources have been eagerly investigated because it has optically transparent window underwater. In this paper, we propose a simple wireless network configuration with only carrier frequency conversion which works as a fully coherent wireless signal transmission, and have demonstrated end-to-end wireless signal transmission between underwater and overwater link by using optical technologies, and confirmed the sensing data can be transmitted with error-free operation for a long period.
