Summary:
An architecture with a cost-effective approach to laying optical fibers is required for the mobile fronthaul (MFH) targeting the 6G wireless communication standard . The optical access networks (OANs) that support MFH has a point-to-multipoint (P-to-MP) configuration that accommodates multiple base stations with a single optical fiber . In the P-to-MP configuration, damage to the optical fiber in the aggregation section during a natural disaster can cause significant harm to the mobile communication system . Therefore, a P-to-MP system with high disaster resistance is essential for realizing the next-generation high-reliability MFH . Furthermore, an architecture that performs functional splitting of the radio access network (RAN) at a lower level is being investigated to achieve low latency specifications . In the low-level split architecture, i.e., the C-RAN, the communication delay between the remote unit (RU) and the distribution unit (DU) within 20 km must be reduced to within 250 μs .
