Summary:
Recently, free-space optical (FSO) satellite communication has aroused considerable attention thanks to the vast unlicensed optical bandwidth and global coverage. However, the optical channel in such systems may be unreliable due to atmospheric conditions. In this paper, we evaluate the goodput performance of the incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) based on the rate-compatible (RC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for the FSO vertical networks. The theoretical analysis and simulation results both confirm the effectiveness of the proposed design compared with type-I HARQ and conventional ARQ. Moreover, the performance of the IR-HARQ with different RC-LDPC code families is discussed.
