Summary:
Optical multicast communications require high availability and serve many users, which leads to the need for protection as well as minimizing the expected impact of failures on the users. Since no research has considered both protection of a multicast session and expected user impact, we first formulate this routing scheme as a nonlinear integer programming problem. Then we provide the idea of reducing this complex nonlinear problem to simpler integer linear programming (ILP). This ILP was solved within a practical computation time for relatively small instances, and it effectively minimized the expected user impact compared with other conventional routing schemes.
