Summary:
We studied possible effects of hospital building structure on the electric fields emitted from a wireless medical telemeter by simulating with the FDTD method and compared with an actual model structure. A model comprises from eight rooms with a telemeter (420 MHz, 1 mW) located in one of those rooms. Both simulation and actual models showed good quantitative agreement. It was shown that the electric fields were attenuated only slightly by mortar, window glasses and plaster boards, while significantly by metal pillars. Also the field strength behind pillars was lower by 20 dB at maximum than that without pillars.
