Summary:
We propose an ONU that operates only with optical power supply as an access point for IoT devices installed in rural areas and outdoors without electricity. Its overall power consumption is low as the active mode for communication is sandwiched between sleep mode states with very low power consumption. We validate the above approach with an experimental machine by combining an optical power supply unit, a power-saving optical transceiver, and an FPGA board for the sleep/active operation.
