Summary:
To improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the received signal in linearly arrayed radio frequency modules of near-field millimeter-wave imaging system operating in the 76-77 GHz band for detecting invisible surface crack with a width of less than 0.2 mm of concrete structures, a guided tapered slot antenna with localized illumination, which reduces receiving noise signals from aggregates in the concrete, to the near-field region around practically 5 mm apart from antenna, was designed. The performance of the GTSA was evaluated by a comparison with that of a TSA in the numerical simulation, and it is expected that the GTSA will be more appropriate for near-field imaging than the TSA.
