Summary:
It is well known that the optical double-sideband (DSB) signal experiences signal fading caused by fiber dispersion in analog Radio-over-Fiber (A-RoF) transmission. In this study, using optical vestigial sideband plus carrier (OVSB+C) signal, we experimentally study the requirement of optical side-band suppression to overcome the signal fading during the transmission. In the studied system, the optical power penalty due to dispersion-induced fading at the bit error rate (BER) of 10e-5 is less than 2 dB for the OVSB+C signals with over 10 dB optical sideband suppression ratio (OSSR).
