Summary:
Recently, wireless high-frequency electromagnetic-wave technologies in the quasi-millimeter-wave and millimeter-wave bands have garnered unprecedented interest owing to new applications such as 5G/beyond-5G mobile communication systems, high-resolution radars for vehicles and airplanes, imaging systems for security, precise antenna measurements, and so on. The author’s group has been trying to develop high-frequency electromagnetic-wave field measurement techniques by utilizing advanced electro-optic modulators with antenna-coupled electrodes. In this paper, several antenna-coupled-electrode optical modulators for converting wireless signals operating in the 28 GHz and 80 GHz bands are discussed.
