Summary:
Research and development of high speed and large capacity transmission technologies using multiple wavelengths and cores in parallel are underway in optical packet switching (OPS) networks. However, since there are no practical optical buffers in an OPS networks, frequent packet collisions cause excessive throughput degradation in conventional TCP communications. In this paper, based on these features, we propose a parallelization method that utilizes multiple wavelengths and cores simultaneously in multicore fibers to achieve higher throughput in OPS networks. The proposed method divides a TCP flow into multiple TCP sub-flows and transmits them in parallel using multiple wavelengths and cores, thus effectively utilizing multiple optical channels and suppressing packet collisions during transmission of each load-balanced sub-flow. Simple network simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can be expected to increase end-to-end throughput by at least 33.3\% compared to a baseline case that there is a difference in the number of hops traversed between multiple sub-flows.
