Summary:
A circularly polarized rectangular Minkowski Island shaped fractal dielectric resonator antenna is presented. Fractal geometry is utilized to enhance the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna by merging higher order modes. Circular polarization is obtained by introducing a cross slot to generate two near orthogonal degenerate modes having similar amplitudes and 90° phase difference. The antenna yields a measured impedance bandwidth of 53% (4.71-8.10 GHz). The antenna is seen to be Left Hand Circularly Polarized (LHCP) with a gain of 4.21 dB and radiate with an acceptable gain over the entire band.
