Summary:
Hippocampal beta rhythm is involved in the memory consolidation. Cholinergic projections from the septum are involved in the generation of the rhythm. But the induction mechanism has not yet been clarified. These results suggest that carbachol-induced bursts of beta oscillation can be induced by the minimal network model consisting of the pyramidal and inhibitory neurons, and the astrocyte. The astrocytes can contribute to the generation of beta oscillation as well as to the generation of the epileptic discharges.
