Summary:
"Cladding pump absorption ratios of double cladding MC-EDFs are so small that significant ratio of input cladding pump power passes through MC-EDFs and are just removed at pump strippers. However, as the absorption ratio is still low, there is much room for power consumption improvement. We can expect that a recycling of unused cladding pump improves power consumption quite high [1-4]. Cladding pump collectors as cladding pump recycling devices collect unused residual cladding pump to multi-mode fibers (MMF) with diameter of 125 um as the cladding pump recycling [1-4]. Here, cladding pump collectors used in this paper are consisted of a non-doped multicore fibers (MCF) and two MMFs are side-coupled with the 7-core and 19-core fiber [1,3]. In this paper, we fabricate pump collectors for a 7-core and 19-core EDFAs and measure cladding pump collection ratios and near field patterns (NFP) of 7-core and 19-core cladding pump collectors."
