Summary:
In the underwater IoT, equipment and devices in the ocean and on the seabed are connected to the Internet via wireless and wired networks. However, it is necessary to consider that wireless communication between acoustic communication modems is slower and has longer latency than others. There are existing frameworks consisting of protocol stacks suitable for underwater acoustic communication. They are not easy to implement network applications and their performance varies depending on communication environment. In this study, we propose a method of data exchange using the MQTT protocol over an underwater acoustic communication network to collect data from underwater devices and implement it using single board computers and Python software. We also evaluated communication performance using actual acoustic communication modems.
