Summary:
Pitch extraction from normal air-conducted (AC) speech cannot give a satisfactory performance for every speech signal and background condition. Since bone-conducted (BC) speech is caused by a different system model from that of AC speech, it has better noise robustness and regular harmonic structure in the low frequency region. For these features, BC speech is very suitable for pitch extraction. In this paper, AC and BC speeches are recorded, an IIR filter model is utilized to synthesize the BC speech, and pitch extraction experiments for the synthetic BC speech are conducted. Experimental results show that pitch extraction from the synthetic BC speech provides more accurate performance than that from the corresponding AC speech.
