Summary:
The sinoatrial node generates action potentials and control heartbeats. Action potentials are described by the nonlinear ordinary differential equations, and the Zhang model is one of the most well-known model. However, the model exhibits bistability so that the model is not adequate for a model of pacemaker cells. In this paper, to study the effects of each ion current on bistabilities of the Zhang model for single cell activity, we perform bifurcation analysis of the model by varying various conductances of ion channels. Furthermore, these results are compared to results of another model for one-dimensional strand activity of pacemaker cells.
