Summary:
This paper aims to provide a comprehensive formulation for predicting the response of RFID tags in arbitrary environments. Usually, the power budget of the identification process is derived from the radar equation, under free-space and far-field assumptions. It is shown that a reciprocitybased approach allows removing such limitations. In addition, this approach appears to be very convenient to support a parametric analysis of the overall RFID system performances and, hence, to optimize its designs, even in complex environments. The validity of this approach has been demonstrated by comparing predicted and measured results
