Summary:
A simple dual-band monopole antenna with wide bandwidths in each band is proposed for WLAN applications. The proposed structure consists of two inverted-L sections printed on the same side of the substrate and fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line. The proposed antenna is designed to have wide bandwidth characteristics in the WLAN (IEEE 802.11a/b) bands. The effect of various parameters on the antenna performance has been studied in detail. The antenna is fabricated using the optimized parameters and it is observed that, the proposed structure offers wide bandwidths in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN bands. The simulated and measured results for the optimized geometry are in good agreement.
