Summary:
Packet-Optical Transport Network (POTN) technologies andarchitectures integrate the functional switching capability of WDMwavelengths, Ethernet via various protocols, OTN/ODU as well asTDM. From a telecommunication service provider’s view, it is a greatadvantage to replace various multiple-layer network equipment withthe unified equipment using POTN technologies. On the other hand, itis a drawback to increase the complexity to operate highly-integratedequipment and to manage the network fluently. In this paper, weinvestigate considerations for dimensioning POTN and then we designthe POTN Dimensioning System to reduce our operation andconfiguration complexities. Finally we suggest the result of networkcapacity in POTN through a test network dimensioning.
