2019 Thailand-Japan Microwave (TJMW2019)

June 26-28, 2019

Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi (RUS),

North Campus, Nonthabuuri, Thailand

TJMW2019 Student Design Competition

TJMW will be hosting a Student Design Competition (SDC). The main objective of this event is to encourage students to have interests in the microwave engineering and to experience challenges in practical hardware designs and measurements. Competitors are required to design, construct, and measure prototype passive circuits for predetermined design requirements.

Guidelines

In TJMW2019, we have two departments for SDC entry. All participants of YES should entry either Dept. A or Dept. B. Details of the two departments are shown below. All participants of YES will receive e-mail of the SDC announcement.

Only applicant for Dept. A must send E-mail using a template shown latter section. Deadline of the E-mail is June 7th. Applicant for Dept. B has no need to send the apply E-mail. Let’s enjoy the event!

Department A: Attendees for this department should design and make LPF in advance.
Please bring the LPF, then measure S-parameter at the venue. Group participation or Individual participation is acceptable.

Department B: Attendees for this department have no need for preparation in advance. On the day of the SDC, just attend, and make LPF based on a lecture, then measure S-parameter. Only group participation is acceptable. The group member will be announced at the venue (around 3 or 4 persons for each group). The lecturers will make a brief presentation of LPF theory, design method, and design results. Any tools, substrate, measurement equipment will be prepared by TJMW SDC chairs. Students has no need for preparation.

  1. Topic of work

Dept. A) 2.45GHz band low pass filter (LPF) on printed circuit board (PCB)
The LPF should be passive type, not include active circuit. Passive components, such as chip capacitors, may be used. Measurement will be done using 3.5mm coaxial cable. So the LPF should have two female SMA connector to measure 2-port S-parameter. Substrate size is not limited. Any substrate material can be used.

Dept. B) 2.45GHz band low pass filter (LPF) using open stub on printed circuit board (PCB)

  2. Evaluation criteria (applicable for both department A and B in common)

    Please check this PDF file.

  3. Important notes

Upon participation in the competition, each competitor takes necessary actions for intellectual property rights such as patents and the export controls.

  4. Prize

All teams will be ranked based on the evaluation criteria, without consideration of entry department. So all teams of Dept. A and B is mixed, and ranked at same time. The winner, as judged by the technical committee, will be recognized at the banquet, and will receive the TJMW2019 Student Design Prize. The winners of the prize get prize money. For entrant of only Dept. A will get the special prize. Unfortunately, a winner of the special prize cannot be duplicated with normal prize winner with prize money shown upper part.

    • 1st prize: 5000THB(TBD)
    • 2nd prize: 3000THB(TBD)
    • 3rd prize: 1000THB(TBD)
    • Special prize (Entrant for Dept. A only): Oscilloscope

  5. Program at a glance

    • June 26th, 2019 14:10 - 17:10 (TBD) Student Design Competition.
    • June 27th, 2019 17:30 - 19:30 (TBD) Award ceremony during banquet.

Details for the submission for Dept. A

Submission deadline is June 7th!!
