Student Design Competition (SDC)

TJMW2026 will be hosting a Student Design Competition (SDC). The main objective of this event is to encourage students to have interests in microwave engineering and to experience challenges in practical hardware designs and measurements. Competitors will design, fabricate, and measure circuits on the day. Tutorial sessions will also be provided.

3. Rules
   
   
   • All students (KOSEN, Undergraduate, Master course, Doctor course, etc.) are welcome.
   • No advance preparation for circuit design is required.
   • Each team consists of 2 or 3 students. Team members should cooperate in activities for achievement.
   • Basics of microstrip-line design and rat-race hybrid design will be lectured by the SDC chairs.
   • The target operating frequency is 2 GHz.
   • Participants will design and fabricate a rat-race hybrid circuit using the materials provided on the day.
   • Participants are requested to bring a scientific calculator. Only scientific calculators and drawing tools may be used for circuit design. PC programs, AI tools, and circuit simulators are not allowed.
   • The fabricated circuit will be measured using a vector network analyzer (VNA).
   • After the initial measurement, participants may improve or modify their circuit based on the measured results.
   • The final fabricated circuit will be evaluated and scored based on its measured performance at 2 GHz.
   • The score will evaluate the performance as a 180-degree hybrid, including transmission loss, amplitude balance, and phase balance.
   • The team with the highest score wins.

   • Conference registration is also required for SDC participation.

   * Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register as early as possible, as you may not be able to participate if the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available.

   
   
   
5. Prize
   
   

   The winners will be commended at the award ceremony and receive TJMW2026 Student Design Competition Prizes.​
   

   • 1st prize: 3000THB (TBD)
   • 2nd prize: 2000THB (TBD)
   • 3rd prize: 1000THB (TBD)

   * ALL SDC participants MUST attend the award ceremony. If absent, they cannot receive the prize.​
