| 抄録(和) | 街中や駅構内で頻繁に見かける「歩きスマホ」は，周囲への注意欠損による重大な事故につながる行為として社会問題となっている．歩きスマホ動作時には，歩行に伴う頭部動揺と注視対象であるスマホが同期して同方向に生じることにより，他にも重大な問題を引き起こす可能性がある．すなわち，頭部動揺時に我々の視野を安定化させる反射性眼球運動である前庭動眼反射（VOR）が適切に機能しなくなる問題である．VORの性能は，眼球速度／頭部速度で定義されるVORゲインにより示されるが，頭部動揺と視覚情報が同期して同方向に生じる状態が続くと，これが減少する．VORは運動中の視知覚に直結することから，歩きスマホによりゲインが変化すると，アスリートのパフォーマンス低下や，それ以外の人においても歩行時のつまずき・転倒につながる可能性もある．そこで本研究では，歩きスマホがVOR性能に与える影響を評価した．その結果，歩きスマホによりVORゲインの上昇が高周波数帯域（4.0 Hz以上）で見出され，かつ，周波数が高くなるほど頭部動揺に対する眼球運動の位相が進む傾向が明らかとなった．これらの結果から，歩きスマホは，種々のスポーツや日常動作にも含まれる周波数帯域におけるVOR性能を変調させ，頭部動揺時に安定した視野を得にくくする行為であることが示唆される． |
| 抄録(英) | “Text walking” often seen in town has been recognized as a social problem that may cause serious accidents due to a lack of attention to the surroundings. During “text walking”, user’s head moves together with the smartphone, which potentially causes another problem, namely maladaptation of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). The function of the VOR is to stabilize the field of view as our head moves. Its performance is characterized by VOR gain defined as eye velocity / head velocity. If head motion and motion of a visual pattern like one on a smartphone continue to occur in the same direction, VOR gain decreases, while VOR gain increases if they move in the opposite direction. The performance of the VOR has a significant impact on our visual perception while performing sports, and any other activities accompanying head motion. In this study, we evaluated effects of text walking on VOR performance by conducting a text walking experiment on a treadmill in combination with virtual reality visual motion. As a result, an increase in VOR gain is found in the high frequency band (above 4.0 Hz) after text walking for 10 min. In addition, at higher frequencies, the phase of the eye movement relative to the head movement tended to advance. These results indicate that text walking causes changes in VOR performance in the frequency band contained in various sports and daily activities. Thus, text walking may result in poorer performance of athletes and others requiring precise visual perception and visuo-motor transformation during their activities. |
